5 Reasons Your Scalp Itches and How to Get Relief

It might be tough to focus about anything else when your scalp aches. The itch may seem interminable, but treatment is attainable. The first step in getting rid of itchy scalp is determining why it itches. Here are the top five causes of itchy scalp:

Dandruff.

You may have dandruff if your scalp is itchy and dry, and you see flakes on your clothes or hair.

Reaction to a hair care product.

You may need to better rinse the shampoo out of your hair if you have an itchy, dry, and flaky scalp. Leaving some shampoo on your scalp can irritate it. This happens often to those who colour their hair.

Another possibility is that you’re allergic to a shampoo, conditioner, or other item that comes in contact with your scalp. If that’s the case, your scalp, and any other skin the substance touches are likely to develop an itchy rash.

Lice.

Head lice usually cause itchy scalps. If you think head lice are causing the itch, have someone check your scalp and hair.

Scabies.

Scabies on the scalp can cause intense itching and a rash of little bumps. These mites may cause itchy scalps. Scabies’ main symptom, itching, may keep you up at night.

Psoriasis.

50% of plaque psoriasis sufferers develop scalp flare-ups. Reddish areas, dandruff-like flaking, silvery-white scale, and a dry scalp may occur. Scalp psoriasis may itch mildly to severely.

Change to a shampoo that is gentle and won’t irritate your scalp, or see a dermatologist for a correct diagnosis.
